My Leadership Philosophy

I think that I have many effective leadership qualities. I know that one of my biggest strengths is my communication and people skills. It is very rare that I find someone that I do not get along with. This alone, of course, does not make a good leader though. Reflection skills are another ability that I feel I have a good grasp on. Self-reflection and regular utilization of this practice is crucial to developing and growing as a leader (LeBoeuf, 2006). My ability to be open-minded and admit my faults enables me to effectively lead others. I also love teaching, whether it be children or adults/colleagues. Educating others makes me feel accomplished and proud. The constant drive for learning new things is another ability that enables me to lead others. Creating fun and interesting ways to learn and grow in education is not just effective for young students but adult learners as well. I know that I learn much more when things are interesting. I try and make every learning experience as interesting and enjoyable as I can. I know that self-confidence and executive skills are a place that I sometimes fall short. There are many times where even if I know I have to make the executive decision, enforce instruction, or assert myself in certain situations, I fall short and become timid. Occasionally the fear of hurting the feelings of others or making them angry will get in the way of performing my job as the leader. There are many times that the little voice inside my head gets the better of me. I know that this is a huge change I need to make if I want to effectively lead others.
