Writing Self Reflection

Finding my writing voice has been a long and tumulous road. When I first embarked on the journey of this course, I did not have a key idea of who I was as an individual, much less a writer. Throughout this course I have grown with each assignment, as a writer and person. I have had the opportunity to discover that I am energized by writing and pushing beyond my comfort zone. I was always a decent writer, with the standard 5 paragraph paper, but when propelled beyond that familiar format I struggled. It was discouraging to be forced beyond what I had always been taught, and reach past what was comfortable. I had to get out of my head and pursue a more complicated path to accomplish my goals. Looking at the world with such a clear, uninhibited view was refreshing. In this class I was not told what to think and write, but rather had to figure it out for myself. This was another challenge for me, as I was used to simply spitting out exactly what the teacher wanted to hear, but in this setting that was not effective. I had go beyond that, and actually develop thoughts of my own. Being able to analyze and look into the meaning behind papers, and why they were written is another great lesson learned throughout the course. It is one that will certainly serve me well in the future. I have learned that I need to think for myself, that sometimes writing what I really feel about a topic is more effective than giving the standard answer that every teacher expects. My role in the world is not to simply let it pass by me, as I stand by passively. I need to find my own opinions and voice them, question what I have been told, and never stop learning. My writing needs to speak for itself. Stand out. Do not let the world decide who I am and what I
