The CCSS also allows students to shape themselves to learn more content knowledge and utilize evidence more effectively, and enables students to become more efficient when using technology and digital media (Allyn, 2014).
It is important for students to have a good learning environment if they want to work hard and succeed, this is shown by in many schools there are countless rules in place that are supported by the fact of maintaining a good learning environment for the students. The controversy of Common Core does not help with that. With the backlash to Common Core students just don’t know what to do anymore. Parents are very anti-common core getting very involved with advocating against it, like going on Facebook and sharing their thoughts on how its ruining the education of youths (McKenna). So, at home they have to deal with parents telling them how horrible and frustrating school is.
Let us face it, our school system is broken. And the government thought they could make an easy fix. In 2009, 48 state leaders, 2 territory leaders, and the District of Columbia solicited the help of hundreds of teachers and other educational experts to create the Common Core. The Common Core Standards are a list of skills and concepts designed to ensure that all children, no matter where they live or how much money they have or do not have, learn the same basic things (Dagnal-Myron). The standards are mainly for the English language arts and math curriculums nationwide.
North Carolina's position on Common Core State Standards is to design a system for students based on what they should know for each grade level for the three crucial subjects and disregard the importance of others. This affects schools and teachers because it's designed to support North Carolina educators in providing the most challenging education possible for the state’s students. The goal is to prepare all students to become career and college ready. In conjunction with legislation such as No Child Left Behind. Common Core is seen as reducing schools' interest and motivation in providing education in art, science, history, and physical education.
Those who are against Common Core base their arguments of several assumptions. The first is that teachers have complained more about the amount of extra training and extra administrative attention than ever before . Common Core standards help prepare students for college, career, and life. Plus, the standards demonstrate what students are expected to learn during each grade level. Consistent academic standards help students reach higher levels of success. The standards stand as a road map for a teacher’s instruction.
Common core focuses on two main subjects, math and english/literature. Some people say that these subjects don’t provide the skills or knowledge necessary for the success of an individual outside of high school, in the work field. I believe if States did not promote Common Core Standards, quite a few educators would only be teaching in their own comfort zone. Since people avoid what they are unfamiliar with, I believe it would be the same circumstances in the classroom. As researchers have studied, the Common Core increases rigor for all bodies involved. Rigor levels do not need to be intentionally problematic, but should promote higher amounts of student achievements.

Should Common Core Standards Be Standard? Nearly every individual born and raised in the United States after the 1990s have experienced the United States’ base requirement in school systems- the Common Core State Standards. The vagueness of the standards leads the teachers to only be able to help the students by telling them the answer instead of them being able to understand the lessons themselves. The standards do not allow for much flexibility in lesson plans. the rigid workbooks don’t allow for much flexibility because they have very specific order of what to teach and how to teach the lessons.
To be able to do that, the teachers have to go along with academic standards. The Common Core Standards were made without the inclusion of teachers, and teachers themselves say that these standards are not good for the students and teachers.
