Is the Common Core Good or Bad for Educators and Students?
The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) were designed to help students become more independent when it comes to learning and allows students to gain an understanding of different perspectives and cultures. The CCSS also allows students to shape themselves to learn more content knowledge and utilize evidence more effectively, and enables students to become more efficient when using technology and digital media (Allyn, 2014).
The CCSS allows students who are disadvantaged or come from low-income families to receive the same type of education as those who are advantaged or come from families with higher incomes. The CCSS was designed to help students who are disadvantaged to achieve higher literacy levels and successfully graduate and makes it possible for them to achieve a higher outcome (Allyn, 2014). …show more content…

Classrooms that are Core Ready allow children to read aloud, read independently, or close reading. Reading aloud has proven to be very beneficial for children and helps them learn and develop. The Common Core demonstrates the proper way to read and helps students to make a connection with their own personal experiences or compare what they’re reading with other literature they have read (Allyn, 2014).
Common Core Math helps students learn how to use math in real life situations in and out of the classroom. Students are able to take what they learned in previous school years and build a greater understanding for future learning.
