John Adams once said, “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more, you are a leader.” I consider myself a leader based on these motivating words written by John Adams. Leadership is the ability to inspire others to succeed while pursuing and accomplishing your dreams. Additionally, leadership is the skillfulness to take charge while likewise knowing when to follow. A leader must be someone who can make executive decisions, and in making those executive decisions meet the needs of the group. I consider myself a transformational leader, a leader that enjoys making decisions, while simultaneously working with others to make sure objectives are achieved. Believing that a leader is only as strong as the team, it is essential to ensure that everyone has a voice throughout the decision-making process.
As President of Student Ambassadors, I ensure that my Executive Board is involved in all decision-making processes, allowing for the input of various ideas and detailed discussions. Being President of this organization provides me the skills and experience needed for my Executive Board positions in the Iota Omicron Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. Aspiring to become an advocate for minority students, whether its disabled students or low income students, I believe this program can enhance my leadership skills to change the lives of these students. I desire to inspire students from all different facets of life. Participation in the Teacher Leader program will be a stepping stone in allowing me to collaborate with future educators and those willing to make a change in our education system. As a future pioneer in education, this opportunity will permit me to network and make connections that are critical to improving the education system and my teaching
