Special Education Emerging Issues In today’s world there are many emerging issues that come about in special education. There are always some new standards that need to meet or a new type of assessment for students. This paper will talk about two emerging issues in special education those issues are, response to intervention and the new Common Core State Standards and Assessment.

According to some research there are five different things that common core state standards can do. The five things that common core does is “provide consistent learning goals for all students, regardless of where they live, they are relevant to the real world, are anchored in college- and career-readiness, reflect the knowledge and skills most valued by employers and higher education, and are internationally benchmarked against standards from the highest-performance countries” (The Common Core State Standards and Next Generation Assessments). In my opinion I’m not truly sure if common core is helping our students or hurting our students. Many states have different thinking on whether or not they want to implement common core into their state standards and assessment. I believe that common core is something that needs to be looked into more closely to see if it truly is better than the old way of doing things in the classroom before states truly go back to the drawing board so to speak and rewrite their standards. The one thing that is noticeable in common core standards is how it is said to be truly preparing our students for college and the real
