Personal and professional development are key facets that most people constantly strive to improve. One way to ensure that growth is constant and a way to evaluate it, is through a Mission-Vision-Values statement. Radiography students at Loma Linda University develop one of their own while in the Medical Radiography program. Loma Linda University’s mission, visions, and values align with the Medical Radiography mission, vision, and values with a few personalized aspects. The values are descriptions of how each organization or person achieves their mission and vision.
I currently work at St. Elizabeth hospital in Edgewood, Kentucky as a nursing assistant on a medical surgical floor. A mission statement is a phrase that summarizes what a company does and why. This statement helps the organization’s employees to see the focus of the organization and shows how their work can contribute to the organizations goals and values (Marquis & Huston, 2015). Our mission statement at St. Elizabeth is “As a Catholic healthcare ministry, we provide comprehensive and compassionate care that improves the health of the people we serve” (“St. Elizabeth Healthcare,” n.d.). As an employee at St. Elizabeth I look at our mission statement and understand that as an organization we strive to provide the holistic care to the patients that walk through our doors each day.
This is a goal, whereas a mission statement is an enduring statement purpose that distinguish a health organization from other organization, and why it exist (Swayne, Duncan, & Ginter, 2008, pg. 162). Building a mission statement require all board member, or a group who are interest in the success of the hospital, to reunite and think precise of what should the mission statement be,
During my half day internship at Pro Sports Therapy, a physical therapy facility in Westford. Pro Sports Therapy has a large staff of physical therapists who specialize in the treatment of musculoskeletal, orthopedic, and sports related injuries at both the Westford and Waltham locations. It was founded by Donald Worden, Fran Helms, and Ed Lacerte in 1999. Ed is the head physical therapist at the Waltham and Westford branches and is the head physical therapist/athletic trainer for the Boston Celtics since 1987 and was also the strength and conditioning coach for over seven seasons. He worked with the Celtics during the 2008 NBA Championship and 2010 Eastern Conference Championship seasons.
Organization and Unit Mission, Vision and Values; Shared Governance Along with vision and values, another important message that health care organization needs to declare is their mission statement. By having publicly stated their core intent, beliefs, future desires, and plan of operations, allows the public to imagine the possibilities and outcomes for the future of health care (Huber, 2014). I have worked for many different healthcare organizations. Each of them has had similar mission statements in providing compassionate, high-quality, competent care with hope for healing, and a healthy future for their patients.

The American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM) is most worthy of donations because they play a huge role in the health of our athletes that we love watching day in and day out. They not only conduct research on specifically sports related injuries but also look for solutions for other non related medical issues such as diseases too. Their mission statement is: “AMSSM provides a forum to foster professional relationships among sports medicine physicians to advance the discipline of sports medicine through education, research, advocacy, and excellence in patient care”. I chose this organization because it is a field I’ve thought about pursuing myself and feel like it’s something very worth getting into however like most other professions requires a lot of hard work, and dedication. Their goals are to ‘serve as the premier educational resource for sports medicine physicians, advance sports medicine research and scholarship through funding support, collaboration and partnerships, uphold and promote priority issues in sports medicine
The purpose of a Mission statement is to define and convey the organization's goals, ethics, culture, and norms for making decisions. An ideal mission statement will identify the company's goals, from a three-pronged approached, what the company does for its customers, its employees and also its owners. The entity chosen for this assignment was the Princeton Academy of the Sacred Hearts; they are an all boys institution with a mandate to educate all boys to become leaders of a just society. Their mission is to develop young men with active and creative minds, with a sense of compassion for others, and the courage to act on their beliefs.

Sports medicine physicians record athletes’ medical histories and perform and maintain records. They also record athletes’ medical histories and perform physical examinations” (“Sports Medicine Physician”). The three different branches of the sports medicine field are Primary Care Doctors, Orthopedic Surgeons, and Sports Psychiatrist” (Cresswell). “A doctor must work 18 hours a day and seven days a week.
Mission statement is a written declaration of an organization’s core purpose. There are two types of mission statement, customer-oriented and product-oriented missions. Customer-oriented missions define organization’s purpose in terms of meeting customer needs or providing solutions for them. Product-oriented missions focus on what products or services to serve rather than what solutions to provide for customers (Jurevicius, 2013). The mission statement of Focus Personal Training Institute is to educate and develop personal trainers who demonstrate technical proficiency, integrity and professionalism (FOCUS PERSONAL TRAINING INSITITUE[FPTI], n.d.).
A major issue facing the sports medicine community is the lack of research done on the differences between men and women in sports. Men and women present differently in their injury healing time, physical therapy, mental health, and more. Traditionally, the textbooks and research done on sports injuries have been based on the male physique. As society progresses and women’s sports become increasingly popular, the differences between men and women in sports become crucial. Men and women have different brain structures, thus causing them to respond differently to physiological stressors, injuries, and mental health issues.
Very few people have the opportunity to work in their field of study after college. I desire to study sports medicine in order to become an athletic trainer. Sports medicine focuses on helping people improve their athletic performance and to demonstrate proper eating and health habits to perform at their highest ability. Not only will i work with sports team, i will work with normal everyday people and at health and rehabilitation centers. As an athletic trainer I will provide and administer first aid practices and share my knowledge with coaches and upcoming athletic trainers.
Setting goals is easy, but my personality and character surface each time achieve my goals. Over the years, I have developed my mission statement based on my experiences and my culture. My goals include pursing a doctorate in Physical Therapy, succeeding as a student, and expanding my personal paradigm to better myself as a person. In high school, I was involved in extracurricular activities such as varsity soccer, cross country, and band.

ACSM contains more than fifty thousand members and certified professionals worldwide. Walter Thompson from Georgia State University runs this professional association. Walter has made sure that the American College of Sports Medicine stays dedicated to advancing and integrating scientific research to provide educational and practical applications of exercise science and sports medicine.
