One reason that standardized tests aren’t good, is that the preparation of them is denying kids part of the fun in grade school. As stated in the book “The Case Against Standardized Testing”, the author Alfie Kohn stated, “You deprive kids of recess, eliminate music and the arts, cut back the class meetings and discussions of current events, offer less time to read books for pleasure, squeeze out the field trips and interdisciplinary projects and high-quality electives...” This is showing that testing is stripping kids of the pleasures grade school each year state testing occurs. Unhealthy Testing Excel in school so that you can get good grades and go to a good college so that you can get a good well paying job so that you can have a good life. This is what has been pounded into our heads since we started school. But what is their is a flaw in that system? Standardized testing is something that students have to do numerous times from when they start school to when they finish. These test can affect things in your life such as what college you get into or what college you can afford due to scholarship opportunities, no matter how hard you study or how high a student's grades are if they do not perform well on standardized test it can affect their future in drastic ways.
Furthermore, standardized testing causes severe stress in younder students of elementary and middle schools. The stress that children endure both leading up to and taking the test can be harmful and debilitating to their young lives and even into young adulthood. No child should have to cope with the stress from the OAA and other standardized tesst along with the stress many children face at home or even the overwhelming stereotypes from the media that are pushed onto the young children of today to live up
Another issue with using standardized tests is that several students get extremely stressed or nervous about the test. This automatically causes students to perform inadequately on the test. Several people who in any other circumstance would be brilliant at a subject would now earn a poor score as a result of them performing poorly on tests. This is not fair to the people who are exceptionally knowledgeable in a subject and just become stressed easily. This further proves that standardized tests are not an accurate measure of educational quality.
Another reason is that these tests don’t value diversity. Standardized testing should not be taken seriously because it can later affect how a student gives all their effort in school work. Not only are students stressed about the amount of knowledge placed in the tests, but parents and teachers as well. Teachers having to cram students with knowledge of a specific test, and parents having to help teach at home as well as having to help with problems and situations that they were never taught when they were in school. Many of students around the world are stuck at home studying each and every night in order to prepare for these tests that pretty much determine how smart society thinks they are.
